Open Question: Seeing as the BNP a legal party why is it illegal for a policeman to be a member ? ?

I gather its ok for a policeman to be a member of the Raving Loonie Party so why not the BNP.? It seems that the police are here to support LAW and order except being a member of this LAWFULL party.
